Went to catch the 3D version of the movie, Clash of the Titans, last Saturday. Hmm... it wasn't as epic as the trailer, I would say.


And there weren't much of the Titans to clash anyway. You have the Kraken for one... Wait... I think the Kraken is more of a mythological creature. Medusa's not a titan, she's a Gorgon. So where were the Titans???!!! Anyway, I wasn't expecting much cause they did mentioned that it was loosely based on the story of Perseus. And plus, Titans were defeated waaaay before Perseus was born. Somehow, the storyline for the 1981 version does seem a lil' bit more interesting.

The movie was fast paced. They sort of just rushed through every scene. I couldn't even catch the name of Perseus's love interest. You know, the ageless girl who was cursed with immortality and had been watching Perseus throughout his life... Anyway, found out later that her name was Io. But I would say that the action scenes were impressive and gory. Love the part where Perseus rode Pegasus while fighting the Kraken and Hades's flying creatures. And also the part, at the beginning where Perseus and family were looking up at Zeus's statue, before the soldiers brought it down. It was majestic. Plus, they did include the rest of the 12 Olympians as well, but they were only in the background. Felt kinda sad for Medusa after hearing her story told by Io. She's a very beautiful lady minus the snakes on the head and the lower half of her body. Try watching that in 3D.. *shivers* (lucky for the subtitles. Don't get it? Continue reading)

The ultimate-triple-kill-put-off when watching the movie in 3D this time is the subtitles. Yup, they have SUBTITLES!!! How can you have subtitles in 3D??? I just don't understand. Not only that the subtitles are protruding out from the screen, it was smacked halfway through the screen. Not to mentioned that the subtitles are in Chinese. I don't have anything against Chinese characters other than I can't read it and it gets kinda annoying after a while. Come on la.. Satu Malaysia, ok?

Yes, it's for some people who can't really understand well in English but it sort of kills off the 3D effect by having it there. Imagine trying to watch Pegasus flying towards you but there's a line of white characters right in the middle of the screen. That's just baaaad publicity. If I wanna see a movie with subtitles, I mind as well go for for the 2D movie. It's cheaper and the subtitles are right at the bottom of the screen. Whoever came out with that brilliant idea should be gagged and forced to watch repeats of all 365 episodes of Teletubbies with 3D subtitles.

If they really keep this up, it won't be a good market for 3D movies in the future. It'll just be a turn off. Hope that someone somewhere within the movie distributor company realizes this and decides to ban all subtitles from all 3D movies. Till then, it's back to plain old boring flat 2D screen. *sobs*
